What it is
The care they need, without you having to stay
Day hospitalisation allows your pet to receive continuous veterinary care throughout the day — monitoring, fluid therapy, medication or supervised rest — and return home in the evening. It is the right option for many cases that do not require overnight supervision but do need constant attention during active hours.
At Rovira Veterinary Clinic, in Gràcia, Barcelona, hospitalised patients have access to a quiet area, separate from the waiting room and consultation rooms, with dedicated zones for cats and dogs.

Some pets need several hours of observation after a procedure to confirm they are recovering well from anaesthesia and that no complications arise before going home.
Intensive treatment
IV fluids & medication
Intravenous fluid therapy, continuous infusion medication, nebulisation or bandaging that cannot be administered at home and requires veterinary supervision for hours.
Acute situation
Acute illness or flare-ups
Repeated vomiting, dehydration, hypoglycaemic episodes or other situations requiring intensive daytime treatment without necessarily needing overnight hospitalisation.

What people ask us most about day hospitalisation
Can I stay with my pet during hospitalisation?
For the animal's wellbeing and to avoid disrupting clinical routines, it is not possible to remain during hospitalisation. However, we keep you informed throughout the day and you can call us whenever you need.
What time can I collect my pet?
Discharge times are flexible within our opening hours: Monday to Friday 9:00–20:00 and Saturdays 10:00–14:00. We agree a collection time at admission based on expected progress.
What should I bring when my pet is admitted?
If your pet takes regular medication, bring it along with the instructions. A blanket or toy with their scent can help them feel more settled. There is no need to bring food unless we specifically ask you to.
Are cats and dogs kept together during hospitalisation?
No. We have separate areas for cats and dogs to reduce stress during their stay. Cats in particular benefit greatly from not sharing space with unfamiliar dogs.
